Basic Drawing Forms Photo Reference Pack -FREE!-
All representational drawing, is at its core, a study of how light falls, bounces, and reflects from physical surfaces. A good place to start this understanding is by observing and drawing at basic shape forms.
This photo reference pack was designed for artists of all levels. It can be used by beginner artists who want to learn how to draw and render basic shapes, with clear, simple lighting, or by more advanced artists who want to warm up, or strengthen their fundamental skills.
This reference pack contains basic shape forms on different grounds and with different lighting. The forms are photographed alone, and in more complex compositional arrangements with:
-light, medium, and dark surfaces
-single source (chiaroscuro) lighting
-double lighting (main and dimmer fill light)
-colored light (warm and cool)
By studying these photos, you can observe:
-How the color of the ‘ground’ changes the amount of scattered/bounced light and overall luminosity of the scene
-How light wraps differently around different forms
-How colored light mixes and bounces on both the surface of the form, and in shadows
-How an object’s surface texture is most evident in the transition between light and shadow
-When shadows have soft edges, and when they have hard edges
Happy drawing!
